Creating a New Safeguarding Case

Overview

There are two steps to creating a new safeguarding case:

  1. Search the patient's record on the NHS Personal Demographic Service (PDS)

  2. Entering the details of the case

Searching for a Patient on the PDS

To create a new safeguarding case, click "New case" from the homepage:

This will open the PDS search. See Searching for a Patient on the PDS for more information about searching patients on the PDS.

To choose the patient and create a new case, click "Continue". This will either create a new patient record if there is not one already on Medicus or synchronise the PDS details with the local patient record if there is an existing record on Medicus.

Entering the Details of the Case

Once you have chosen a patient to create the case for, you will be taken to the "Create Safeguarding Case" form to enter the details of the case.

Please note: Some cases relate to multiple patients. To create a case for multiple patients, first create the case and then you add any further patients from the next step.

Once you have created the case, you will be taken to the "Safeguarding Case Overview" page:

From here you can manage the details of the case, view the Shared Care Record of patient's associated to the case and more.
